South Fork of the Flathead River

South Fork of Flathead River and its tributaries are the focal point of these unique fisheries. This remote and pack-in only river drains much of the "Bob" and is home to the largest genetically pure native trout population in Montana. The South Fork is also one of the last places in Montana where the bull trout can be targeted by anglers. With bull trout numbers in other watersheds low, there they compete with non native trout species, the bulls are still healthy and pure legends in the South Fork. These large predatory trout love to to hunt those monster streamers at the back of your box. The South Fork is the largest holdout of this native Char in the Lower 48 states. The bull trout here act like an anadromous species, heading upstream every year from Hungry Horse Reservoir. Bull trout are frequently caught in excess of 20" and fish up to 30" are always found every year. Check the current Fishing regulations for this river and Bull Trout.
